A freezer failure is stressful, especially when it's full of expensive product. Here's what to do in the first few minutes to protect your inventory and help your technician fix the problem faster.
Step 1: Check the basics
- Is the unit plugged in and the breaker on?
- Is the thermostat set correctly?
- Is the door fully closed and sealing?
- Is the condenser coil blocked by boxes or heavy dust?
Step 2: Keep the door closed
A full freezer will hold temperature longer if you keep the door shut. Every opening lets cold air out.
Step 3: Note the temperature and time
Write down the current temperature and when you noticed the problem. This helps with food safety decisions and helps your technician.
Step 4: Move critical product
If you have another working freezer, move your most valuable or sensitive items first.
Step 5: Call for service
Don't wait to see if it fixes itself. Call J and G Refrigeration at (224) 634-5366. We provide 24/7 emergency freezer repair across Rockford and Northern Illinois.
